Custom design of substrates and inhibitors of proteases

Pharmaleads is a research company focused on the custom design of substrates and inhibitors of all types of proteases for two main applications:
    

      
   Design of optimised substrates and/or inhibitors for Pharmaceutical companies.
         Internal drug discovery in the field of Analgesia (PL37 a NEP and APN dual inhibitor)

The unique know-how of Pharmaleads relies on patents based on 20 years of research on zinc metallopeptidases and enzymology (see some of our numerous international publications). 

 Products and Technology licences on high growth markets

1) Metallopeptidases Substrates and Inhibitors: 
Off-the-shelf products:
Pharmaleads has already designed high performance substrates for Zinc metallopeptidases (NEP, ECE, ACE, APA, APN,…)  for HTS applications. Pharmaleads research has led to several high potent metallopeptidases inhibitors, available as off-the-shelf products.

Custom design of products:  Thanks to proprietary technologies and know-how (see for example Fluofast), Pharmaleads is able, on request, to design custom substrates or selective inhibitors for proteases or, more generally, enzymes. These developments are typically conducted for Pharmaceutical companies under confidentiality agreements and within long term royalty contracts. 

2) Assays for the quality control of  botulinum toxins. These assays are based on the PL50 and PL150 substrates designed by Pharmaleads. Their use by toxin manufacturers can avoid, or limit the use of mice tests at the end of the production process of toxin vials and drastically increases the precision and sensitivity of the measurement of botulinum toxins concentrations. These assays are available as off-the-shelf products or through technology licence agreements.

3) Biodefense: EzyBot A & B are field test kits designed by Pharmaleads for routine field control of raw or drinking water. Their very low detection threshold, high sensitivity and their robustness make them ideally suited to implement a permanent protection of the populations from the risk of pollution by botulinum toxin that could occur during bioterrorism events.

Additionally Pharmaleads has a strong R&D activity and develops innovative solutions based on its knowledge of enzymes and of the design of their substrates and inhibitors. Among other topics the most advanced developments include:

    Analgesia: new patented family of molecules, which leader is PL37,  under development based on the innovative concept of dual inhibitor of NEP and APN. The regulatory pre-clinical stage of PL37 will be completed very shortly, and its Phase I is expected to be launched by end 2007.
